T.G. Sowerby Developments Ltd are pleased to showcase our latest completed project for North Lincolnshire Council, a nursery extension to South Ferriby Primary School.

Commencing in August 2025, the extension was a traditional brick and block construction onto strip footings, with a block-and-beam floor. All elements were carried out by our own groundworking and bricklaying teams. The choice of brick and the detailing to the brickwork was chosen to match the extension as seamlessly as possible to the original school. Rainwater goods were aluminium, and guttering was fitted on rise-and-fall bracketry to match the aesthetic.

The windows and doors for this project were manufactured in-house and were glazed on site by our own joinery team. The decoration of these, along with all internal decorations, was carried out by Harold Todd Painting and Decorating Ltd.

The roof structure was relatively complex and was overseen by our site manager, Jon, and our own joinery team. There were two main elements - a trussed, pitched roof, hand-cut where it met the existing school roof, and a flat roof with sun tubes to allow a source of light into the new changing area below. The clay pantiles were sympathetically chosen to match in with the existing tiles. Both the pitched roof and the flat roof were installed by LA Hall (Hull) Ltd.

Externally, our groundworking team remodelled the parking areas and the access to the main entrance, installing all paving, dwarf walls, fencing and kerbing. They also carried out the underground drainage installation for the project, including the soakaway installation, before sympathetically landscaping the gardens above this. A commemorative 'tree of life' was carefully retained for the duration of the works, and formed the centrepiece of the restored gardens.

An external canopy was built by Twinfix Ltd, finished in blue to match the school's colour. Adjacent to this, we carefully prepared an area for Lazylawn to fit an artificial turfed surface for the nursery children to play on, in the warmer months!

Internally, our mechanical contractor, Hales & Coultas Plumbing and Heating Ltd, fitted a zoned underfloor heating system, covering the new nursery and the new main entrance to the school. A new bathroom suite was fitted in the nursery, and basins were added to the existing KS1 classroom area.

Our electrical contractor, Brook & Mayo Ltd, oversaw the installation of all small power, data and lighting. The lighting for the nursery featured dimmable ceiling panels, fitted within a suspended ceiling that our own joinery team fitted. Alongside this, Brook & Mayo oversaw the adaptations to the existing alarm systems.

Lincolnshire Flooring Ltd installed all floor coverings throughout the extension, along with the renewal of the flooring in the existing KS1 area and the entrance lobby WC. A sliding partition wall, installed by Style Midlands, allows the school to open the space between the nursery and the KS1 area, or maintain an acoustically-rated wall should they require. This was carefully fitted within a hardwood reveal, built by our site joinery team. Dave, and his brilliant team at Premier Clean, gave the project its final sparkle ahead of handover in the final week before Christmas, around 3 weeks ahead of the original anticipated completion date.

We wish to extend our thanks to the fantastic team at the school, who we worked closely together with throughout the project. Carrying out the works during term-time always requires a degree of sensitivity to minimise disruption and it was a pleasure to work together. A separate word of thanks is due to both North Lincolnshire Council and Align Property Partners for their hard work on this project, completing this together in a timely manner.
