Following a busy summer on site, the October half-term saw the successful handover of the SEN Unit extension at Killingholme Primary School for North Lincolnshire Council. The project was a welcome return to the school for our team, having built the Phillips 66 Enterprise Suite here around a decade prior.

With a start on site made in July 2025, the summer holidays were a flurry of activity focused on classroom renovations and the creation of a new staff canteen. We were supported by the team at Lincs Interiors, forming the metal stud partitions and subsequently plastering these. In late August, work began on the extension, this being a traditional brick and block construction onto strip footings, with a solid floor. All elements were carried out by our own groundworking and bricklaying teams, with brick choices made to complement the existing building.

External windows and doors for this project were supplied and fitted by Kole Architectural. A large internal glazed partition was made by the team at Viking Hardware, fitted by our own site joinery team. Alongside this, our site joinery team fitted new skirting, architrave and doors, along with tea-making facilities in two locations within the school.

The flat roof structure was fitted by our site joinery team, with coverings installed by LA Hall (Hull) Ltd.

Externally, our groundworking team remodelled the playground, preparing a large area for resurfacing. This followed various alterations to the playground drainage, allowing for the building of the extension. A significant amount of fencing works were required to form new staff parking areas and to provide safe and secure access to the unit; these were carefully carried out ahead of the road crossing onto School Road being formed. The team at Wells Plant Hire Ltd oversaw the works to the public footpath and formed the new road crossing, before re-surfacing the school playground to give an excellent finish.

Internally, our mechanical contractor, Hales & Coultas Plumbing and Heating Ltd, looked after the plumbing works,  with our electrical contractor, Prestige Electrical Solutions Ltd, overseeing the installation of all small power, data and lighting. Alongside this, Prestige handled the adaptations to the existing alarm systems.

Lincolnshire Flooring Ltd installed all floor coverings throughout the remodelled areas and the extension, bringing the project together nicely. The team at Premier Clean gave the project a thorough once-over ahead of handover during October half-term, refreshing the existing school carpets so that the 'old and new' areas merged seemlessly.

The brilliant team at Killingholme Primary School were a pleasure to work with throughout, and we were delighted to have the opportunity to return after many years away. Special thanks are extended to both North Lincolnshire Council and Align Property Partners for their hard work on this project, to again create something that we're all very proud of.
